At Mary Immaculate School, we encourage authentic ‘student voice’ and believe that every individual student has the capacity to develop their leadership skills:
- Each year, every class nominates a class member to join our Student Representative Council, who meets regularly with our Student Wellbeing Leader and Principal, to plan school activities and discuss ways that we can continue to improve our school.
- Unique to Mary Immaculate School, each of our Year 6 students holds a leadership position, appointed by the Principal and School Leadership Team. Throughout their final year of primary school, our Year 6 students further develop their understanding of the qualities that effective leaders demonstrate, as they are supported to fulfil the various responsibilities of their positions. Student Leadership positions include: Environment and Sustainability Leaders, Information Technology Leaders, School Captains, House Captains, Vice Captains, Liturgy Leaders, Specialist Programs Leaders, Buddy Leaders, and SRC Leaders.
- Our school is part of the North Eastern Zone – FIRE Carrier Program – Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education, a joint initiative of the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry Victoria and the Opening the Doors Foundation. The FIRE Carrier Program seeks to keep the Reconciliation flame alight in our local Catholic primary schools. Our Year 5 and Year 6 student FIRE Carriers are elected and commissioned annually and work with our staff FIRE Carrier Leader to raise awareness, and to plan initiatives and events.
